Conscious Void

Upstairs Gallery, The City Gallery, Leicester

4 December - 8 December 2007

PREVIEW Tuesday 4 December 6.30pm- 8pm

MA Fine Art Nottingham Trent University graduates Cat Preston and Lucy Stevens are collaborating for a five- day exhibition at the Upstairs Gallery of The City Gallery to combine traditional textiles with binaural audio technology.

Using the Upstairs Gallery of The City Gallery as a host, the installation allows visitors to interact with the physical environment and listen to audio that has been created specifically for the site.

Conscious Void examines the connotation of the empty space of the gallery and investigates how to fill it with existence.

Preston and Stevens examine and respond to the everyday existence of the upstairs gallery space. The changing existence of the gallery environment is an important factor to the work of Stevens and forms the site- specific binaural audio installation. Preston responds to the beauty of the traditional feminine craft and its endurance of creation, creating a textile divide within the gallery space.

A limited edition CD containing binaural audio samples from the exhibition will be given away to the first 30 people that attend the exhibition.

The private view will take place on Tuesday 4 December between 6.30pm- 8.00pm at The City Gallery, Leicester.
